Default Torque Thrust "D" Size Question

Finally, after weeks of indecision, I have decided to install Torque Thrust "D" wheels on my Coupe. I called TireRack.com and they claim they have a "Guaranteed Fit" in a 15x6 size. I asked about clearing the calipers and they claim "no problem".

My dumb question, is this the same width as my BO Aluminum wheels? I know they are 15", but I do not know what the width is (6" or 7"). If the BO's are 7" am I causing a problem going to a 6" wheel?

Thanks for anyone's help.

Your BO's are 6". Better make sure you can return them - there's lots of history of Torq-Thrust D's that interfere with the calipers on a Corvette, unless they finally have a new one that clears.

Mine don't clear by much, maybe a 1/16th to an 1/8th.

Thanks for the info John. I was not sure how wide the BO wheels were. I just called TireRack.com again and they say with their 'Guaranteed Fit" warranty, if the wheels do not fit, they pay for return & replacement shipping (they will also take them back and issue a full refund).
I don't think it gets any better than that.

Default Now I am really confused ???

I emailed American Racing about the Torque Thrust "D" fitting my 67 Coupe. Their answer is...

Roy,
Thank you for your interest in American Racing!
The TTD will clear the calipers, but will be into the fender, with the 3.75” rear spacing. The set-up for a 67 Vette, is a 15x7 with a 4.25” rear spacing and 205/70R15 tire. So, the closest style we have would be the Torq Thrust II with the gray spoke. The part number for this wheel is CL205576142.
I hope this information helps!
Sincerely,
American Racing
info@americanracing.com

If I go with their recommendation and use the Torque Thrust II, I believe I will have a rubbing problen on the inside of the tire. If someone can set me straight on this I would appreciate it.
Thanks, Roy

Makes you wonder about who is manning the telephone lines....Here is the CL205 in 15 x 6", 3 3/8" backspacing and +1/8". The tire is 215-70ZR/15. Note the curved spokes to clear the caliper.

No rubbing inside or outside.

Default Cl205

About two years ago, I purchased Torque Thrust Ds from a Jegs Catalog. Although everyone told me they would fit, they did not. I did not want to run spacers so therefore sent them back. I did a lot of research and Paul67 helped me out a lot. I think the CL205 as he recommended is the way to go. It is more expensive than the standard TTD but as you can see from his photo, it looks great and FITS. I have not purchased mine as of yet but saving up for them. Good Luck.

Thanks for the information guys. I took the plunge and called TireRack.com again (and placed my order). They claim their engineers have thoroughly researched fit of the TTD's on 67 Vette's. In any case it is their nickel if there is a problem. They will cover all shipping costs if there is a fit problem. They will be sending the 15x6 wheel with a 3 5/8" back-space and 4" offset. We will see how this turns out.

These fit.

The offset is +1/8".

The dish or frontspace is 3.375".

The 3.625 backspace is between the factory 5.5" rims (3.690" bs) and the factory DC 6" rims (0.060" bs).

These 6" TTD's sit ~3/16 inboard of where the factory Knock-Offs sit, and great for 215/70's (possible frame rub at full steering lock).

If they clear the calipers they will fit & look great.

Default Good News! They fit!

I received 2 of the 4 wheels yesterday and did a test fit on the front and rear last night. They fit perfectly with at least 1/8" clearance over the brake calipers. I think they are going to look good. All I need now is the other 2 wheels (they are backordered and coming from the factory). Hmmmmm, should I install the 2 wheels I have right now on the rear?
