Default Best source for "numbers"?

What is the best source to figure out what certain numbers are for a C2? I decided to look my '65 roadster over for more "numbers" on parts, date codes, etc, etc. I have found many of them, but don't know what they mean, or what they represent. As you know the Corvette Black Book only goes so far. I am looking for something more detailed. Here are a few example of what I mean:

Trans VIN S107961 (OK, I know this means I have a matching trans )
Trans Tag 3857579
Trans on pass side rear (opposite side where VIN is located) P01 18
Trans pass side by patent # 3851325
Rear End AP1 18 65
Rear Date code K64 (October 64 I think)
Bellhousing 3858403

Can anyone tell me what these mean and if they are correct for my car? Again, if there is a source I could go to so I can self sufficient , I am more than happy to do that. Thanks for any input.

Numbers look good/correct for a January 26th-built car. Trans tag says it's an M-21 built January 18th, Diff housing was cast on November 4, 1964 and assembled on January 18th (4.11 Posi), bellhousing is correct.

Default How did you get so smart?

John Z,

You the man!! But where do you come up with all this knowledge? Can you fill us in on the "secret"? I'm sure I can pick something up that would help me with these numbers and others I may find in the future.

Default Question for JohnZ or anyone else

JohnZ,

You stated that the trans tag states it's a M-21, but the "Black Book" shows they didn't make an M-21 until 1966 and all 1965s had M-20? Is this another error in the "Black Book" or is this strange?

If you would like to see a picture of the VIN on the trans, I could send a picture of that.

The M20 option in 63-65 let you order the close ratio. That is a M21.
Go here http://www.5speeds.com/muncie2.htm and read all about Muncie's.
Best website I've found on Muncie's.

Default numbers

From the numbers posted by Carmutt how can you tell if the transmission is close ratio or not? I am going through the number conformation exercise myself and curious as to how to identify a M-20 vs a M21 without removing the transmission. I had been looking for an A,B or C letter at the end of the date code??

You can't tell from the outside - the ratio identifier character wasn't added to the Muncie "P"-number until October, 1968.

So JohnZ,

How could you tell from my trans tag (3857579) that mine is a M-21 instead of an M-20? I tried to do a google search on Muncie trans id tags, and couldn't find anything helpful. Looks like I have to rely on you again. I REALLY appreciate your knowledge and help.

There is no single source of good references - I have gathered MANY references over the last 40 years, and refer to them (and revise them) regularly.
