now is there any websites or literature that can decode our vin? and our vin wasnt attached to the car when we got it, it was with the title, where do we fasten the tag to the door jam or steering column?

There is no information to be gained from the VIN other than the date the car was produced. The VIN on 60's started out attached to the body side driver's hinge pillar with two screws, and moved during the year to being spot-welded to the steering column tube in the engine compartment. The breakpoint is shown in the NCRS 1958-1960 Corvette Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide; if you don't have it, you need it - available from the NCRS on-line store at www.ncrs.org.
