Default Dash Wiring Question

Hello, I'm working on 66 L79 and I'm re-wiring my dash area and putting my restored cluster back in the car. So far so good to a project that made me real nervous to tackle on my own. My question is: there is a capacitor mounted on the steering column brace, it has 2 wires coming out of it both ends are sleeved to indicate they slip into a plug of some sort, much like the amp gauge capacitor. Both wires are black indicating ground, but to what? These wires were disconnected when I got my car 3 years ago and I have not given them much thought up till now. I haven't had any luck going thru my AIM manual or poring over my exploded poster size schematic that I have for the car. Any input would be much appreciated. Regards, Marv

Sorry for the lack of detail, I rephrased the question to include my year which is 66. Thanks

That sounds like the capacitor that connects to the brake light switch. Each thin metal edge of your capacitor wire slips into one of the 2 brake switch wires.

Check page F437 (UPC U69, sheet A5) for your AIM. Most of the capacitors in the dash/underdash area are radio (U69) related, and show up in that section of the AIM.

62Jeff and Vark_wso thank you both. My AIM book only went to page 402 for some reason. I had another old one that I looked into and it went to page 437 and there was the info that I needed. This capacitor does go to the brake switch. Thanks again. Regards, Marv
