I used a floor jack and block of wood when I hooked up my composite spring. My spring is rated at 360lbs and the only "real" weight I had in back was my differential and a recycle bin with a set of iron heads, my old coil springs & brake rotors . Kind of trailer, but it worked.
Not sure how "safe" it would be, but if that didn't work for you, maybe an industrial/military tie-down/cargo strap looped around the rear cross member & end of the spring?

I put a bottle jack on top of the frame with a piece of cardboard under the jack. Wrapped a cargo strap under the spring and over the top of the jacka couple of times. Then jacked it up to compress the spring.
