Is it held on with clips alone or is their some kind of glue too?

Hi! Don

There are two different clips for the stainless. The windshield clips are different from the rear window clips. The clips slide over the steel birdcage or where the gasket seats to the opening and the rear clips do the same on the fiberglass. I would take notes or pictures of the windshield clip location points. The rear windows have locater points on the fiberglass.

I just replaced my gaskets and some of the clips on my 63. I purchased the rubber from Corvette Rubber and the clips from Paragon. Everything fit fine. If you are purchasing new clips, insure you match up the clips prior to installing the glass. You will not be able to get the clips out after the glass is installed.

My old clips and stainless had a lot of waxy gunk attached to them so I just wondered if that was part of the attaching process for the stainless. It was likely from the sealer used on the rubber /glass?

A sealer was used as the factory that would evenually turn gooy (technical word for liquidify) to help seal the window, glass, to the body. That is what you are seeing. There is a newer product used today and I will try to get the name for you later on, don't have it in front of me... This is added between the weather striping and the fiberglass body after the weather strip is applied. Obviously the Stainless Steel trim goes over this, but because it swishes up some could get on the inside of the SS trim...

Hi! Don

I believe that the windows leaked and many different type of remedies were used to solved this problem. I did find some white dum-dum type caulk on the clips. I used window sealer between the gasket and the frame on install and re-sealant between the glass and gasket after the install and prior to the stainless. I still have a few minor windshield leaks at the corners and need to address this problem. I believe that the leaks explain why there are so many C-2 with birdcage problems.
