Default 1966 max. axle load

Doen anyone know the maximum front&rear axle load(lbs) on a -66 convertible with a 327"? I'm not even sure if the factory has advertised this info anywhere?

Don't know if this is the info you're looking for but, full rated load is 450lbs. Two passengers @ 200 lbs. and 150 lbs. luggage.

Default Max load

Thank's for the reply! Actually I need the specific max load on the front and rear axles separately. The numbers you gave me might be helpful except I'm not sure if you mean max. payload is 450 or 550lbs(200X2=400+150=550lbs)

There was no federal requirement to publish gross vehicle weight ratings (GVWR) or axle weight ratings (GAWR) until the early 70's, when it was required to be shown on the MVSS Certification Label on the door along with the VIN, tire size/pressure, and build date.

Default Vehicle weights

Thanks for this info. This info was needed in connection with first time registration after import to Norway. There is a very eager inspector at my local DMV that usually insist on this documentation. I guess I just have to shoot him....

The max load is on the original round sticker on the back of my glove box door - and I assume you add that to the registration weight and the weight of 20 gallons of gas.

As a reasonable guess, an SB car is almost 50/50 balance and if you assume the 150 pound luggage load would make it perfectly 50/50, then add 550 pounds to the registration weight and 20x6.25pounds per gallon (125pounds)

Convertible curb weight 3160
Coupe curb weight 3140
"add" weights:
a31 Power windows___ +5
co7 Hard top________+49
c48 less Heater______-20
c60 a-c____________+93
j50 power Brake_____ +12
L89 aluminum Heads__-73
m20 4speed _________-5
m35 powerglide ______+1
n40 power Steering__ +21
u69 radio __________ +21
l79 327/350 ________ -8
l36 427/390 ________+215
l68 427/400 ________+151
l71 427/435 ________+149
Then a convertible with a 327 and all options would be 3362 pounds. My BB car weighed 3350 on a scale with an SB installed (and no hardtop) 19 years ago, so that number is close.
Adding the 675 pound cabin and fuel load makes the total 4037 and that would be 2018.5 pounds on each axle or 915.6 kilograms per axle.
