Air cleaner clearance problem
It did but the three inch tall Elderbrock triangle air cleaner hits the hood on both sides right at the area of the stinger to the flat part.
Have any of you ran into this and what did you do?
TIA.
Your problem is the triangular air cleaner. It is too wide and too high! I'm running your identical setup in my 65 with the stock 3"x14" circular air cleaner setup with no issues. Do be careful that the spinner you use to hold it on is also not too high or you will get a spider crack in the hood.
I bought a drop down 14"x3" air cleaner but still has a slight clearance problem.
A 14"x2" air filter in the air cleaner assembly solved the problem.
I'm going to find a 14"x2.5" filter when I can but this worked folks.
Thanks a ton.
BTW, I have BTDT with the too long mounting bolt before the restore.
A 3" hit the hood slightly.
A 2" then the air cleaned top hits the front standup in front of the air intakes of my 780 Holly carb.
I need a 2.5" tall filter. Anyone help me with vendor and PN?
I have it working now with a 1/4 spacer under the air filter but don 't want to leave it like that to long.
TIA.
Summit has two K&N filters that you can try. #KNN-E-3735 is 14" x 2 1/2" and #KNN-E-3742 is 2.813" high

I used the K&N 14" dia. 1-1/4" drop base with the K&N 14" dia. 2-1/4" tall
filter element. I also choose the K&N X-Stream lid for the most air flow.
You can not get this as a kit with the 2-1/4" filter. It only comes with the 3" filter that I'm aware of. Around $120.00 kit price. You may be able to get away with the 3" filter and save a few $$$. The components are available seperate through a K&N dealer. The base, filter and lid seperate will possiably cost a little more.
For my fix I also needed to find a manifold with the lowest carb. plain height. I found for my BB that the WEIAND STEALTH was the lowest. (You can get the technical data on heights from the manufacturer.)
Even with that air cleaner combination I still had to shave a 1/4" from the manifold carb plain to get enough clearance that I was comfortable with.
Second with my HOLLY I also had to shorten the float bowel vent tubes a bit to clear the air cleaner lid. Than it was fine....Until..... I purchased a B.G. Demon carb and the float bowel vent tubes needed to be shortened on it as well. The dang things are part of the casting of the carb so I needed to machine them down for clearance as well. Anyway good luck! You shouldn't have too much trouble. If you can get by with the 3" element I would go that way so you don't run into any other clearance issues with the carb. Oh yea, make sure your throttle linkage is clear of any obstruction also.
Good luck!! Remember it's all fun!

Seems to me that if you have to cut the vent tubes, you really don't have enough space over the carb for air to turn the corner without having at least some sacrificial effect on top end power.
