from the new sidepipes...not me, my wife Heat shields are on back order, so we were running without them.
Went to a Cruise In, and there was only 2 cars there, (too hot I guess...103 degrees) so we left, to go eat dinner at Applebees, and I was so focused on putting the top up, and securing the car, I forgot to remind her of the pipes
She took it all in stride. Not to bad, as she only touched it for a second, but enough to leave a small mark.
I've got three small kids that love to ride in the car, so "watch the pipes!" is always on the tip of my tongue. No burns so far (but I did get myself a few years ago).

John,
Just curious, are you using factory side exhaust or the Hooker type? I never cared for the Hooker type and everyone I knew that had them have gotten burned pretty badly in the past. On the 5 Vettes that I have owned I only had factory side exhaust nothing else.
Its funny but I noticed that a lot of members on the C-3 forum seem to prefer the Hooker set up. My feeling is that they don't fit the car or look as good as the factory ones on either the C-2 or C-3. Just my opinion but I am sure it is shared my many on this forum.
I have a nice round "tattoo" on my ankle to remind me of my car for the rest of my life. Live and learn. At least now I always remind my passengers to watch their legs getting out.

It's the repro factory style. I just don't have the heat shields yet, and that's why she burned her leg.

John,
Don't know where your heat shields are coming from but a word of advice look them over real good. I had a problem years ago with a set Lics sent out to me. One shield had a factory defect that stood out like a sore thumb. When I contacted Lics about it they started a big fight with me like as if I was the one to cause the factory defect. Anyway to make a long story short I don't deal with them anymore. I reordered another set from Corvette America at the time and they were perfect. They even came in a factory sealed box unlike the set I got from Lics at the time making me think that the Lics set already was sent back to them once before and that maybe they felt they could pass them off to someone else that might not notice the defect. Who knows but I would check them out well before installing them because we all know how much they cost and for that kind of money they should be perfect.

Unfortunately, when I was restoring my 65 back in 96 my then 11 year old daughter went for a quick ride with me (side pipe covers had not been re-installed). She exited the car after the ride and burned the inside of her right calf. The skin peeled right off. One of the worst feelings of my life. She wears the faint scar proudly now at the age of 21. To me it is a reminder of my own stupidity!!
