I recently purchased a 64 convertible with the original engine (I have it stored) out of the car and a supposed LT-1 installed. The engine seems very strong & checked out fine, but I need to know for sure what it is and the info I have read on where to look yields confusing results.
A mechanic showed me a machined flat on the passenger front block where he said the correct information was stamped;
it says 2MO601 (I think)
passenger rear by flywheel says: 140
driver rear by flywheel says just: 84 or 94 (I can't tell for sure)
Does any of this mean anything or where else should I be looking?
The stamped assembly code on the front block pad on an LT-1 starts with a "V", then four numbers for the month and day, then three letters for the suffix. I don't recognize the format of 2MO601.
The 7-digit raised block casting number is on the flange area at the back of the block, behind the driver's side cylinder head. The 3- or 4-digit block casting date code (starts with a letter, then two or three numbers) is about six inches to the passenger side of the distributor.
