Default Another Powerglide Question

My 66 powerglide (behind a BB 390 hp if that matters) performs perfectly until it gets hot. Engine temp 180 +. At this point on the downshift it will not go to first but lands in nuetral. My idle speed is 550 rpm.

When I press the pedal to accelerate it will spin in nuetral for a fraction of a second catch first and lurch into gear. I have learned to manage it.

I took it to a repair shop (P G drag race guy). He says he rebuilt it. I have had it back three times and still have the problem. On the third trip I watched him repace the valve body and the sort of round triangular thing on the right. Not the modulator. He has pretty much given up (not in when I call).

Any suggestions...............Help. Thanks in advance.

What do the clutches look like? Color of fluid? Does it shift hard into second? Any slippage there?

You may need to borrow a torque converter. Just to eliminate it.

Is your car an original 390 powerglide? Mine is also. Yours is the fourth I have heard of. What options do you have?

I did not see the clutches but the tranny guy swears he completeky rebuilt it. The fluid is new and bright red and it doesn't shift hard into second. I would call it firm though. Thanks

Ken, Yes mine is an original BB powerglide. I guess we are in a very small club huh? If you click on my corvette pictures here there are some pics. As far as options I think the only one I don't have is C 60 A/C. Even has factory shoulder belts, but I don't use them. Including yours I have only seen a blue coupe, a blue conv, and your yellow coupe. I saw a silver one on ebay last week but it looked very fake to me. Lot of wrong parts, poorly restamped pad. Maybe just a bad resto. What state are you in? I am in Ohio. Thanks
