Default Strange Turn Signal Problem

I just replaced the turn signal switch in my 67. I instaled a new production switch and it looked to be good quality. The install seemed to be straight forward. All of the wiring is already done and all I had to do was plug it in. Now the problem. When I select either right or left turn signal, everything works great until I try to turn it of by centering the lever. When I mover the lever back to the center, the flashers start to blink. The only way that I can get them to stop is to push the flasher button in and pull it out. That seems to reset everything until I use the turn signal again. Then the whole thing starts all over again. The correct light blinks until I move the lever back to center. Then the flashers start. The flasher does not work if I push or pull the button and no turn signal selected. The brake lights work fine. Anyone else had a similar problem?

Thanks,

Doc

You should not manualy shut off the turn signal, either use the lane change feature, or let it cancel by itself, that is one of the things that causes a switch to go bad.

If you just push the signal lever part way, the signal light flashes as long as you are holding it in position, then returns to the off position when you let go. It is there to change lanes without having to manually turn the signal light on and off all the way because you aren't moving the wheel far enough off center to activate the cancelling cam.

Old cars do not have this feature, all new cars, starting around the mid 60's, have this feature.

The new assembly in my 65' doesn't have any of those features, push it down for left, turn, returns to position, same for right.

Four-way flashers were introduced in 1967.

I have never seen that problem before. Sorry I can't help you.

The 4 way flashers had a strange wiring feature when they first came out. Without having a key, if you turned on the radio, then turned on the left signal light, and the 4 ways flashers, the radio would work as the lights flashed on and off. With the foot on the brake, that stopped the flashers from going off, and you could listen to the radio.

Worked on 67 chevies, never tried it on a vette.
