Default 66 Brake Light Problem- HELP

I have a 66 coupe that I am restoring. My brake lights did work a few days ago now they don't work. The Orange lead at the brake light switch has 12 volts and the white has no ground or voltage. I jumper the orange and white at the brake light switch and still have no brake lights. Turn signals work fine, running lights a fine, emergency flashers are fine. Does this mean the next step will be steering wheel removal and replacement of turn signal switch. I have a telescopic steering wheel if that matters. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Rodney

Rod,

What did you do to the car in the few days between the brake lights working and now? Retrace the steps. Should be something that you did that caused it. By the way, did you check to see if you blew a fuse?

At the bottom of this page:
http://www.corvetteforum.net/classic...e/index5.shtml
is a link to a 66 wiring diagram.

Notice that the white wire feeds the turn signal switch and the turn signal switch feeds two wires (dark green and yellow) that go to the rear body connector.

First make sure that the crescent plastic connector at the base of the column is tight. If the turn signals work and the brake lights don't, it is probably the turn signal switch. Disconnect the crescent connector and apply 12volts to the dark green and the yellow wires to light the individual lamps. If they do not light, check the bulbs, the rear body connector (above the LH kick panel), and the grounds to the stop lamp assemblies.

Give me feedback on what you see.

Magic. I did as you suggested. I put a jumper from the 12 volt orange wire that goes to the brake pedal switch to the dark green wire and the right light came on and the left came on when I put 12 volts to the yellow wire. So should I assume that the turn sinal switch has gone out on me.

If you are sure the white wire supplying the crescent shaped connector has 12 volts when the brake pedal is depressed, the problem is in the turn signal switch assembly. Double check to avoid replacing a good expensive turn signal switch, instead of a cheap and easy to replace brake pedal switch.

If the white wire gets 12 volts, disconnect the battery and begin by removing the crescent shaped connector from the lugs at the end of the turn signal switch wires. The connector is too big to slide up the column otherwise.

I haven't worked on a c2 with the telescopic column option, but I will guess that the option only adds to the fun
