I have a chance to buy a correct motor for my 65 vette,it was posted on ebay and I bid on it and it did not meet reserve. The seller sent me an e-mail and said he would sell it to me for my bid price. He sent ebay the information and they emailed an ok and it would be handled through ebay. Here is my problem with it,the motor is in Minnesota I live in Calif,he agreed to ship motor UPS.But I am to send the funds via western union to United Kingdom. That kinda scared me! Will ebay cover my butt if the motor isn't right or doesn't arrive??? What do ya all think?? I would vary much like to get the motor,it was a good deal!!
ps the seller has lots of positive feedback,no neg.

DUDE???? DON'T DO THAT. ITS A SCAM!!!!! I BET IF YOU CONTACT THE SELLER HE HAS EITHER SOLD IT OR DOESN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THE MINUTE YOU SEND THAT WESTERN UNION CHECK OUT, YOUR SCREWED. EBAY DOES not HAVE YOUR BACK ON THIS. TRUST ME.
DON'T DO IT !!! We all get OFFICIAL looking ebay mail. I got one just today and deleted it. Its not hard to create a legit looking email. All you have to do is copy one ! If it was a true deal. He could probably get more money for it over there vs. the U.S.
I Almost Got Scammed About A Year Ago Over A Pro Flo Fuel Injection System Off Ebay. It Looked Legit But Someone Cut And Pasted Ebay Logo And Made It Sound Like A Second Chance Offer. Someone Asked The Seller A Question During The Auction So It Was In Myebay Account. I Called Him And He Said That 5 Other People Were Contacted Too And It Was A Scam. Look And See If The Person Selling It On Ebay Has The "same" Email Or Same Screenname. Thats How I Caught It. One Letter Was Different. It's A Scam Dude. I Don't Care How Legit It Looks. Never Use Western Union On Ebay. A Lot Of People Are Scaming Using Jet Ski's And Motorcycles On Ebay. They See Who Bid On The Expensive Item From The History In Bidding And Are Crooks. I Hope You Think About This Wisely.
I usually get an EMail back stating "it was a scam".
DON'T fall for it.
Think about just the shipping. Can you imagine your UPS man carrying a 327 motor to your door?
I've bought engines, blocks, transmissions, and other heavy stuff. Comes via TRUCK FREIGHT, either to your door, or to the freight terminal.
Buy a copy of Hemmings Motor News at your local big newsstand. Look in the Corvette ads. The companies I listed above have hundreds of dated blocks, heads, etc. for sale, and they're all real. Chuck
That’s why Scams work - the victims ignore all the warning signs - because they don't want to “believe” a too good to be true, offer, is just that, too good to be true.

Chuck......F.Y.I..................U.P.S. recently aquired Overnite Transportation, the third largest L.T.L. carrier in the U.S. They now call it U.P.S Freight. They also bought most of the largest border brokerage firms. Looks like they are out to rule the world.............buns
Ok.I just received an email from ebay and yes it was fraud.....
I guess we should always check with ebay before making large purchases. The origional seller of the motor had 445 positive feedbacks,I felt good about that ,but sending funds Western Union to another country sent up red lights. From now on I will check large purchases out with ebay.
At least you did the right thing. You trusted your instincts and you asked the question first.
ebay is a great place to buy & sell, but phishing scams are very common, as are ID theft scams, which is likely what yours was. They will actually "lift" someone's feedback so it makes the seller look legit. Oftentimes the feedback details don't really match the seller, but on big items like cars, private people often sell cars for the first time while having feedback on other times of items. Gotta pay attention.
You dodged a bullet.
PS- you said it was a "correct" motor... did you find the one matching original VIN? Or is it date-appropriate and you are planning a re-stamp?
