The world lost another vette person today. My father, David Dana, passed away in his sleep from ALS. Dad was a real gearhead and always had sports cars and muscle cars. He started out with a '32 Ford which he put a big Oldsmobile engine in. In his early driving years he did a lot of drag racing and was sponsored by Pontiac for a while with various Pontiacs. He owned and autocrossed using either his '64 or '65 Corvette - and did quite well racing them. He always did his own work and took his gear headed-ness to work while he rebuilt jet engines for the Navy in Norfolk, Virginia.
He loved cars and loved going fast. So, if y'all are out in your cars, just give him a quick thought while you're on the go pedal.
(I know this isn't really solid axle/midyear related, but Dad really loved midyears)
Chris,
I'm really sorry to hear about your dad. My dad passed away a few years back and it's one of those moments that you can't ever prepare yourself for. It is truly awesome that you shared a great hobby with your dad that will allow you to remember and honor his memory every time your out cruising. Best of luck to you and your family and I'm truly sorry about your loss.
Jeff
Tossin,
Sorry to hear about your Dad.....sounds like a great guy. Also sounds like he left behind alot of special memories that you'll cherish even more now. You'll both be in my thoughts and prayers.

I am really sorry to hear about the passing of your father. I know its not an easy thing to go through. (both of my parents have passed)
I'm sure your father would want you to carry on the gear banging and wrenching. May his soul rest in peace.

Sorry to hear about your dad. My dad is still alive, but he is in a nursing home, as a result of a bad car accident. He got hit broadside by someone doing 60 MPH, and as usual, he wasn't wearing his seat belt. He doesn't even recognize me, my wife, or our kids anymore. My mom died 3 years ago, and he doesn't even know about it--We didn't tell him--He doesn't have the mental faculties to understand any more. He is 87.
To all of you out there whose Parents are still alive--Cherish every moment with them--They won't be there forever.
Sorry to hear about your dad I lost mine in 1995. Lots of good memories and thats what is important.
A verse from one of my favorite gospel songs:
As you roll across the trestle
Spanning Jordan’s swelling tide
You behold the Union Depot
Into which your train will glide
There you’ll meet the Superintendent
God the Father, God the Son
With extended hands, he will greet you
Weary pilgrim welcome home !
Tossin, very sorry to hear about your dad. I also lost my father to ALS. He was only 59. I often think of my dad when I take a ride in my old cars. He was the reason I got hooked on them at an early age. Great that you'll always have fond memories of "the gearhead" . for your dad.
Tossin, Very sorry to hear of your loss. Was born and raised in Norfolk and a Big Thank You to you Dad for keeping those jets flying. Lost my Dad about four years ago and I miss him more every day. If anyone reading this post has parents or grandparents living, please talk to them as they hold the key to our future!

Very sorry for your loss, and the others posted here as well. I took a DVD back to blockbuster in the 66 this evening and blasted the last stretch of road home. That shout out the sidepipes was for your dad.

Sincere condolences on the loss of your dad. I lost my dad in 1997 and my mom in 1999. You always know it is coming, but you just don't want to hear or accept the fact that it has arrived.
Sounds like your dad was quite a guy and really found enjoyment for himself through the hobby. A blessed life by any standards.

So sorry for the loss of your father. I lost my father at 61 not that long ago. He is still riding with me every time I take the Vette out.
I'll be sure to run her through the gears for your Pop next time I'm out.
I'm very sorry for your loss. My Dad passed over 20-years ago and there's not many days go by that I don't think about him or want to have a word with him about something. My condolenses.
