LS7 Crate engines
just to get the engine-swapping types here thinking, GM Parts Direct says they have four LS7s on hand and ready to ship to you . . . . $16,132 plus the GMPD charge

Jack,
If you shop around a little you can get it for a about 13K. I was going to use one in the current project that I am building, but they kept delaying the release of them until I finally had to make an alternate engine choice. I bought a brand-new LS2 drivetrain from a car that was destroyed in a train derailment for $7500 delivered to my door! Given that this included the engine, trans, harness, both computers, and every little part that I asked them to pull, I guess that I am not too dissapointed that I didn't get the LS7 after all.
The LS7 includes no accessories, no oil tank or lines, no computer or harness, ect, ect. It would have been nice to be the only one on the block with one, but with only 245 tires on the 65, it would have just been overkill! For that matter, the 400+ horsepower on my LS2 is just wasted power. The LS1 in my 59 can smoke the tires at any speed below 40 mph with the same tires!

Wrong, wrong, wrong. My choice would be the Scott Shafiroff 472 C.I...........................small block!!! Paint it orange and hang your stock accesories off it. Amaze your friends, fool your enemies.

That LS-7 sure would be nice in the wifes C-5 convt., but she's already bitchin because I bought a Flowmaster exhaust for it.
I have a fresh Aluminum head 427 sitting on a stand that she wants me to sell because she swears I'm going to find a way to slip it into her C-5.

See ya all that are attending at Carlisle next week.

I guess I was right that it was only a matter of time until somebody finds a way to do it. I decided on a motown block to achieve the same cubic inches with a smallblock because I wanted the hot rod feel to my car. Any of us can put together a combination of parts to make insane amount of horsepower. But there is no free lunch. Once you run solid rollers you have to keep checking your valves and they probably won't last 100,000 miles. High compression pistons, you have to run racing gas. Nitro, you have to keep filling the bottle and make sure you don't run too lean. Blower, then you have that big thing on your hood. Nevertheless, that LS7 is basically an engineering miracle. 505 hp advertised, probably over 550 flywheel, it runs on pump gas, bulletproof reliability, burns clean and quiet not offending the green party and it will probably get over 20 miles to a gallon. My admiration to those doing it and keep us posted.

Yep,
I decided to go this route to enjoy the benefit of over 500HP (I'm actually installing a different cam that has hit 600HP at the flywheel) and with the beefed up T56 6 speed still probably get 24-26 MPG on the highway! I have done the big stroked carbed small block with roller cam all forged bottom end, AFR heads etc..... and you can easily spend 12-15K by the time it's setting in the frame rails! I wanted to build this car to cruise and just have fun! Maybe even catch the new Vette guys off balance once and a while
Looking forward to seeing/meeting up with everyone at Carlisle again this year! Have a safe trip.Jeff

did you go with larger rear quarters? Do you have to do anything to the center of the car to fit that much tire? I think Rich Lagasse is doing almost a min-tub on his 63 to keep the sexy lines of the mid year.

I am running Greg Thurman rear 1/4's. They give you approx 1" additional clearance while maintaining a near stock appearance. I believe Rich Lagasse is running a stock wheel tub and will most definitely be able to get a 255 and possibly a 275 in there due to additional inboard clearance provided by the SRIII frame.
I was forced to bump out on the 1/4's just a little or sacrifice being able to use a soft top. On the convertibles the wheel tub can not be moved in without interfering with the top frame when folded down. I am very happy with the look of the car, you can hardly notice the extra width. I attached a couple of pics. The current rollers are C5 rims that have 255's up front and 275's on the rear.
