I'm moving my Alt from Right to Left side to install A/C. During my investigation I noticed that I have 1963 Left Exhaust Manifold (# 3797901) 340HP (2 1/2") Why I don't know but it is there.
My question is: Is there a LH Alt bracket for 63 LH manifold? and if yes where can I get one or does anybody have one? Does it look like a mirror of the RH Alt bracket? A pic would help.
Thanks
George

George, your RH bracket should work on the LH manifold, but you may need to stretch the holes a little. The LH Manifold sits further forward than the RH manifold.
No harm in trying. Just move the Alternator and it's bracket to the left side and see how it lines up.
The upper bracket/adjustment probably won't fit, as it's bent to fit the right side.

There are two types of alternator brackets, iirc. This is from memory but - there are two basic types of alternator brackets. For help, look at Paragon Reproductions at:
Do a search on alternator bracket and look at the types. The Paragon number PR #: 1781K is what was on my 66 when it had pre-66 heads on it. I took that part off and put on the type that mounts directly to the head.
Take a look at the various Corvette parts catalogs and see if they have what you are looking for.

From memory:
The 901 manifold was used on '63-'64 Corvette and passenger so an alternator bracket from either should work for your purposes. It was also used on same model '62's but they used a generator and I don't know if the bracket was the same. I don't know which belt pulley will align with the alternator. The right side bracket is almost a mirror image of the left but significantly different and will NOT interchange either in mounting or alternator alignment.
The '63 Corvette had AC so I don't know why you couldn't assemble the standard production parts and make it work.
I have a pair of chrome left side alternator brackets (upper and lower) that should work for your application. I'll take $20 for the pair. If you are interested let me know.
Just use the production parts for a '65 with A/C - you need LH exhaust manifold casting #3846563. If you can't find one, Paragon has the reproduction (their #1827) and the brackets.
George,
The 62-63 left manifold (for Corvettes) was like the one in your picture (901) with 2 holes facing the side. The the 64-5 left manifold (563) had two holes facing FORWARD. Thus the alt mounting brackets (for Corvettes) changed between 63 and 64. BUUUUUUUUUT, the same type left side bracket for passenger cars (with a small block) was like the 63 style for Vettes up through 1968. So, for example, if you could locate a 64-68 Chevelle alt bracket (should be tons of them readily available) you will be inbusiness.
By the way, the 63 left side alt bracket and the 64-5 right side brackets are similar (kind of like a mirror image), but NOT the same and will not swap from one side to the other side!

Hey, I might have one of those..., in nice condition too!
First six digits are definitely 384656. Last digit could be a 3 or an 8. Line below says LH 30, with a big GM. Date code looks like D13. Two forward facing alternaor mounting holes and one still has an original bolt in it.
BTW, this was off my air conditioned '64 before I took the A/C off.

Do you need a new engine wiring harness when the alternator is moved from right to left side of the engine? How do you handle this?
LMa1939
decide whether you want to run the old/new wires either around the front of the engine (for example on the top of, or in front of the radiator support), or across the firewall and then along the driver's side fender as was done on the passeger side; and then splice the wires to the necessary length. finish up by taping the wires together to look like a harness....
