question for Vietnam vets who were in-country in the mid 60's
i hope i don't re-awaken any bad memories for some of you... i was in III & IV Corp and Saigon in 66-67.
call me crazy, but i remember seeing a blonde female entertainer (probably an 'exotic dancer' who did the camp club circuit) who was driving a white w/white coves 61 or a white 62 in VIETNAM . this was the era before Tet when there were still a lot of non-combat civilians in-country and things were relatively calm in the big city areas and the highways were still passable to civilian traffic.
does anyone else remember her or her car?
Bill

No, but sometime in '68 or '69 while flying up the coast from Saigon to Nha Trang I saw a White '63-'67 cruising up the coast road.
Maybe she traded up?
Maybe she traded up?

I was in the marine corps 65-67 in that lovely country. All I saw was rice paddies, snakes, and a walking trail that never ended. Where was all this entertaining going on ? 0311 / 2531 were my lucky numbers if your familiar with them.

Hello
My Dad was in country 1970 to 71 (Capt. Charles Christensen A.K.A. "Capt. Midnight" (Does anybody know (remenber) my dad when in Vietnam??) on a fire base in Da Nang..He remenbers seeing a blond in a Corvette while getting R&R at China Beach...
I asked him how he remenbered that...He said he remenbers that because it reminded him of home....He said she was and attractive Blond (French?) woman...But trys to forget the bad things that happened over there...
P.S. My Dad also remenbers being called a "baby killer" and being "spit on"...
God Bless all the "boys" who did and didnt not come back...All of those poor souls that are still suffering from the Vietnam war
Update: He remenbers the blond...He thinks she was driving a American car of some type...Maybe a Mustang...He does remenber a Blond/Brunette in a 1966 Corvette picking him up at the airport ....Yes it was my Mom...She met my Uncle at the airport.. Uncle who is a WW 2 veteran (He is still alive...interesting man who just turned 17 on D day and was there fighting the GERMANS but thats another story!!!) at the airport..Why? because he wanted to greet my father also....My Mom says she had been drinking with my Uncle while waiting for his delayed plane to come in...Didnt recoginize him at first....LoL Yeah she was drunk.. .... Dad no longer has the 1966 Corvette but still has the girl/ my mother...Yes my dad drove her home!!!!

Made a lot of trips in '66 and '67 via Jeep between Nha Trang and Cam Rahn, never saw a 'vette or a blonde (except for Nancy Sinatra, Joey Heatherton, and a couple of other gals with the Bob Hope Christmas show).
Did get some really good seafood on a regular basis at a French/Vietnamese restaurant in Nha Trang, though.
I bought my first Corvette, a '63 vert with 4:11 gears, 340hp two top car, Silver Blue with Dark Blue interior right after getting home from there, though. Great car, great times.

The only Corvettes that I saw were in the occasional car magazine that someone would receive in the mail. I am pretty sure there wasn't any in the Pleiku area - checked it out pretty well from the air during my tour (7/17th Air Cav "Ruthless Riders"). There was an are near us they referred to as the "Golf Course". I think it was built courtesy of our brothers in blue from their B-52s (or some hellatious artillery fire).

Years later, I can appreciate and understand his "feelings" toward that "traitor"!!!! I know people think that she was trying to be "different" and bring attention to herself and the war...
But she went about it the WRONG WAY!!! If you ask my dad what should have happened to Jane Fonda...He thinks she should have been killed like WW II "Tokyo Rose"...
I wonder if any of the other Veterans still harbor a "dislike" for Jane Fonda???
P.S. Peter Fonda had a big block 1966 Corvette he raised hell in(Apparently he liked sidepipes and going really really fast in it!!)... and Jane Fonda use to go out and raise hell in it with him!!!!

It was probably a good thing we didn't see a Corvette heading down Highway 19 - some of the crazy guys I was stationed with probably would have shot at it.

Spent most of my time in the Plei Trap valley too far from any road. Does the Ho Chi Min trail count?
