Fuel pump Question
I am just about good to go here and down to hooking the ac back up before putting the hood on but I am concerned about a problem with fuel delivery. Before all this "repairing the restoration" started I had the car on the dyno and the hp fell off rapidly due to a leaning out situation that started about 5000 rpm.
Being as I do not see any "good markings" on the fuel pump I am concerned as to whether it is pumping sufficient fuel and would like to know if it is before I spend the money to go back on a dyno. Even if I was to temporally put a pressure gauge on that would not confirm the volume of flow and unlike an electric I cannot just disconnect the delivery line to measure the volume.
I have gotten rid of a demon carb and now have a double pumper on so that should eliminate carb issues (hopefully) I just had the intake off and while I did not know the cure to the fuel evaporating in the bowls before reading that thread, I completed the cure just as a common sense approach to eliminating heat on the carb bowls. In addition to that I have removed the rain shields that block the vents in the hood bubble
I am sure there is a simple answer as how to confirm the pumps performance but so far it is eluding me.
Thanks
Doug

Sure you can. Just run the engine to be sure that the carb is full. Disconnect your fuel line from the carb or "y block". and put a hose on it. Aim the hose into some kind of container. Have someone start the engine, and observe the flow. There is a spec for volume in a given period of time, but I don't really remember what it is. I think a pint in 30 seconds should be sufficient. I'm sure that someone will chime in here with the answer.
Thanks Ron
That reminds me of the expression "why didn't I think of that" but I am glad you did. I would like to see what the volume should be and I wonder if the same pump is used for all motors.
For sure an L88 uses a lot more fuel that a 300 hp 327 but I would hate to see the cost of a pump designated solely for that motor. I tried to put a Holley fuel pump on but the outlet and intake could not be made to work even when after I clocked the unit.
I am going to do a little web research to see if there were more than one fuel pump installed in mid years and expressly between thirsty and ones not quite as much. Meanwhile if someone knows the amount of fuel that will be required in the manner you have suggested or the GPH figure for a BB with a big cam and carb setup it would be nice.
Thanks again
Doug
Ironically at this site the 427 fuel pumps were considerably different (and cheaper) then the 327 pumps ($30 BB 40 and 45 for SB)

The next site has BB pumps for way more than SB pumps plus a core charge. Any input on either the sites or the pumps would be appreciated.
