Default 1958 corvette

I'm new to this so please help me. My two questions are when stripping my vette I found numbers on the body and gas tank cover,can any one tell me what they are.. Found # 732 under the gas tank cover,and # 155 on the bottom side of the body also # 156 or 159 under the dash pad. Also would like to know on my 57 the paint code is chaulked on the sub frame in the front, do the 58's also have this or where is the paint code located. Thanks Tom

I would suspect that the numbers are both 155 and that it is the internal body number assigned to the body at the time of build. You will probably find that in other places too. I dont know about the gas tank cover. I would suspect this was a sequence number that was put there by the parts manufacturer, or the lid has been replaced. The color should written in crayon near the trunk lid hinge on the bulkhead. Thats under the board on the RH side, near the hinge.

I would suggest picking up Noland Adams' C1-C2 Restoration guide, lots of good info on this topic in there. A '57 and a '58? I don't like you already

If you look in Noland Adams it shows you the chaulk mark on the 57.

I also had the job number on my fuel cover lid written in pencil. The same number normaklly can be found:

* inside the doors
* in the metal dash dome

The pint code is often to be found behind the trunk cover (near the passenger hinge) when you carefully remove the paint written in chalk.

greetings,
Rob.
