Default Floating tachometer

The needle on my tach floats, or is springy, when I accelerate quickly. At idle, and while driving at constant speed, it functions properly. Does the cable simply need lubing, or is the problem in the distributor or gauge?,

Most likely the movement assembly in the head itself. I tried lubing it and then replaced the cable and housing, had small enhancement. My speedo needle also flucuates, they both need a rebuild. It's on my to do list for someday.

Did the same on my 63 - lube, then replaced cable. Ended up having the unit rebuilt - now it works perfect.
