This will never be a numbers match car, so enjoy it as a driver! So, I'd go with the LT-1. I like them because they just sound like they are in a high state of "tune". Nice idle and they seem to really like to rev... Plus you get 4 bolt mains...
You can't get totally original appearance with it though.. the crankcase vents through the rocker covers. (There is no port behind the distributor to connect to the air cleaner.)

Amen,
It's not ever going to be one and your never going to get numbers matching money for it, so why try and duplicate it and pretend its one? If your going to spend that kind of money to build a car that will never be "correct" why not just ask yourself this..... If you could go back in time and buy a spanking new C2 and bring back with you to the future, what would it be? That's is what you should build! Big block, smallblock, 66, 67.....whatever makes you go WOW everytime you look at it and drive it. If it's tastfully done you will never have a problem selling it, if that's even a consideration for you. Best of luck with your decision!

Thanks for the input, I'm leaning toward the LT1 to save $$ and really think all this engine will need is a refresh with no cyl boring required. Rings, Bearing and a valve job.

I can than sale off the BBC parts, 870 block, 350hp lower end stuff and the 69 DZ-302 intake / LT1 Valve covers.

From experience I have a 66 Coupe with A/C, P/W, P/B, P/S, tinted, AM/FM and a 327/350 rebuilt to stock configuration. I can say I compltely enjoy the car as a driver. Go with the original S/B casting and you will not be sorry

I vote for the LT-1. If you're going to break it down make sure you build it back to 1970-71 specs.

I had one of those in my 1968 Camaro and it was a sweet, sweet motor.

I would also dress it like the 1970 with the valve covers and pcv system, but no AIR components.

Just make it super clean and tight and it will be a wonderful car.

Big Blocks are popular but they make bad driving cars. They're just too heavy for these bodies. You could lighten one up quite a bit with aluminum heads, intake and water pump, but they just don't spin up like an LT-1.

Sell all the other stuff and recoup the cost.

You and your son will have a beautiful car that you can have a ball showing and a blast driving and you probably won't be reselling it anyway.
