Sending unit short
Forget the washer fluid. I will post new thread once I fix the sending unit. Car is bone stock 67 L-79 vert. I have the 3 wires disconnected at the tank. When I connect them, the fuse blows 10amp in the car. The tank and sending unit I put in 2 years ago. The sending unit was new then, but short always occurred. I did not buy the cheap sending unit at the time and splurged for the good sending unit if that makes a difference. How do I fix? Can I fix without an ohm guage? Or buy one on Ebay.
Just got map lights and back up lights to work after being out for 20+ years.
Before I installed the new, new sending unit I ensured that nothing was rubbing anywhere, installed it and have made it through one whole tank of gas without a problem, yet.
On my 65 the temp gauge, parking brake alarm, and backup lights are on the same circuit as the fuel gauge so those should all work for you as long as you've got a good fuse.
So as for your car, you might find you need another new sending unit. I got the first one, the bad one, from Corvette Central. I got the second one from Long Island Corvette Supply. The Long Island one was a slightly different design than the Corvette Central one, but seems to work just fine although I had to reseat the retainers on the terminals in order to keep fuel from leaking through the sending unit when installed.
