Default Does this engine pad look correct?

Does this engine pad look correct? The Vin number matches the trim tag. I don't see any broach marks, or any machine marks. It is a 65 Coupe with 350 h.p. I am going to have this car judged in the spring of 07. I have never tried to post a picture so if this does not work I may need help.

Might just be the picture. But, the "73" and the "09" look a little different. I'm no expert though. All I'm saying is they look different. See how broad some look and others look thin in width ?

No "broach" marks. Makes me think "restamp". Just the fact that they are on a straight line.

"Broach marks" have been obliterated by 40 years of rust. JM .02

I think when they stamped them it was done on one dye...hammered all at once... the stamp looks like some charaters were stamped individually; some seem deeper than the others...

Looks good to me. They weren't meticulously perfect coming off the line.

I always say, If they're TOO perfect they're probably fake

The two stampings (assembly date versus serial number) were stamped at different times and wouldn't use the same fonts anyway. The assembly date was stamped (in this case at Flint) on the engine assembly line and the serial number was stamped at St. Louis before it went into the car. The stampers pulled the characters from bins and ganged them together in a fixture before the hammer came out (this was done similarly at both plants). Often times as the characters would wear/break/get lost they would be replaced and could have been different looking, just as long as the info got stamped. That is also why you will often see "I" instead of "1".

Pad surface looks good to me.

The stampings are a little inconsistant but not enough to be an issue to me.

Looks "typical" to me - many pads had hardly any broach marks to start with, and they'll disappear after 40 years of exposure.

Makes me think the block has just been sitting around for a while-you know time wears at things especially small lines such as broach marks. Numbers look fine to me. With all the variations who is to say what is right or wrong on this forum besides experts such as john z and duke. Not I.
