Default motor mount install tricks

Picked up new motor mounts, 64 coupe from FLAPS. Made in India Can't figure how the frick to get the through bolts to line up. Done it before, not now. I got tranny unbolted at mount, motor mounts bolted to block, but just can't get through bolts to line up. Is there a trick to this shmit that I need to know? Would it help to hook up my cherry picker instead of fricking around with my jack under the block, to try and wiggle engine around? After three hours now on this crap I think maybe the motor mounts might be not right. Don't know.

Calm Down! No need to use bad language here. Yes, hang your motor, preferably by a carb mount plate. Use a long drift pin to ease the openings into aligning. Watch your fingers! Al W.

you can also loosen the 3 bolts in the block for GP and then use the drift...
dont forget to torque it up

Put a taper on the motor mount bolts. Loosen the three bolts on the block and do a lot of shoving back and forth.

I questioned the quality of the same mount (Made in India, non locking) and went with a GM mount (locking). The one made in India was $5.00 the GM one was $55.00

When I put my motor in the went in no problem. Use the lift on the carb plate, but make sure you don't mash the dist and other goodies when you lift.

I wouldn't even THINK about NOT using a torque travel limited (locking) mounts.

How much is your life worth? You ever have an engine torque over so far from a broken mount(s) that the throttle is stuck wide open until you reach down and turn off the key?

Originallity can be carried to an extreme, and no one is going to look at your motor mounts anyway, and if they do, so what, they aren't the original mounts that came with the car when it rolled off the assembly line so what does it matter?

End of rant. Sorry. Safety always trumps originality, unless the car is sitting in a museum.

Get good GM mounts, fit right, fit first time, save you tons of time.

Your bolts should slide right in without lifting the eninge, tapering bolts, drift pins, etc., It also shouldn't matter if they're locking, non-locking, GM, other or origin of manufacture.

I think you have the wrong mounts. There are several Chevy V-8 configurations that are very close and almost impossible to tell the difference when side by side. Take them back to the store and re-check the number. If they insist they're correct, shop elswhere.

In my younger days I would keep an extra new motor mount in the back seat floorboard. Cops pulled me over a few times for burning rubber. I used the sorry officer "my throttle got hung due to a broken motor mount" worked every time

Yup.... on a 65 Vert with the 365 SHP and 4:11s..... Actually, I broke four of them in one year..... wound up "chaining" the engine down.... that worked.....

Anyone have any experience with Pioneer brand mounts? In appearance, they look 100 times better than the Anchor brand for much less money.

I haven't seen the Pioneer mounts, but they're a major supplier of all manner of engine parts to machine shops, and have an excellent reputation for quality.

Best I remember, the mount didn't break and then cause the throttle to go wide open and stick. You had to open the throttle and then when the engine rolled, it bound the linkage in that position. Nevertheless, I used that same line on two cops that didn't like the wheelie I pulled leaving the Mobilgas station. That was in a '56 Chevy which wasn't affected by that recall but was during the same time of the recall. It worked, no ticket!

Skids I feel your pain! Was dropping a Camaro motor back in (by myself) and fought it all day!!! Finally punted the Indian mounts and went to a reputable store. There was only a slight difference, but enough to matter!!

New parts fit, motor bolts went in in 5 minutes...

Apologize for my rant,:o just one of them days. Anyway, the mounts that didn't fit were Pioneer. When I sat them on the frame mount, they wouldn't line up with the frame bolts. Half inch short. Then I found some Anchor mounts. They would of worked but they were 3/8" too wide where it sits on the frame mount. Finally went to my much visited vette resto shop, and these mounts fit perfect. Made in USA. Should have gone there in the first place. Thanks everyone for your responses.
