Default I'm Learning !

Thanks to you guys. I saw a 65 on ebay today that had the Corvette emblem on the hood. If I remember our conversation from yesterday, the 65s didn't have the Corvette emblem on the hood. (Unless I learned it wrong.) So, should I assume it's probably a 66 hood and that the car has been hit in the front end? Is that a safe guess?

1966 had the script on the front drivers side corner of the hood. Also different seats and a few other little things.

1966 is the only year to have two emblems on the front.

I think that's a fair conclusion or at least the foundation of a justified suspicion, unless that be a 66 BB hood on a 65 SB car - then you might just be witnessing "hood upgrade" which was not all that unusual.

Or the owner simply liked an emblem on the hood.

on a stock 65 SB hood, aren't the access holes for mounting a 66 emblem missing, meaning it "just ain't that easy"? Of course, anything could be glued down or drilled out . . .

Correct. No emblem access holes in the original 65. However, the repro SB hoods are probably generic and I would guess they have the access holes.

Repro hood I bought for my '66 didn't have the mounting holes for the emblem, had to drill them out, along with larger access holes on the underneath side to access the mounting nuts. Guess you could put the emblems on anything if you chose to do so.

Thanks Ron. I guess it makes sense to let the customer drill the holes now that I think about it.

Jackster,
Forum of life long learning. Is this a great place or what?
