mid year issues
My wipermotor always worked but now it won't shut off. I checked for old grease cake inside. any other ideas. What does Steve Hackel charge?
My amp gauge is always burned out. Had one rebuilt and it cooked instantly. If I use the afermarket sun gauge that works ok. I took the amp apart and saw the windings are hair thickness wire. I don't undersatnd that part of the wiring. Again any ideas? Really don't feel like buying a new wiring harness,
I think over the winter (NH) I will take most off it apart and freshen her up. Acually I could do it now, both days of summer have gone by!
Thanks Curt

MagicV8 explained to me that the Amp gauge is simply measuring the voltage difference between the voltage regulator and the starter, and that a voltage spike can burn it out pretty easily. It is also normally an unfused circuit.
After burning mine up with a voltage regulator that was stuck on overcharge, I put a 2-amp fuse in the Amp gauge circuit when I installed my rebuilt gauge. This way the fuse blows if I were to have a problem somewhere.
1) I bought a fuse holder
2) Put male/female terminal ends on the wires in it
3) Unplugged one of the amp gauge wires from the plastic connector at the gauge
4) Put the female terminal end of my fuse holder in the plastic amp gauge connector
5) Attached the male terminal end of my fuse holder to the recently unconnected amp gauge wire
As for rebuilding your speedometer - I'd definitely go with Jason as noted above if you choose to have it rebuilt.
This old timer said it's static electricity and he would take a cotton cloth and wipe the guage in a circular motion (as though he were cleaning it) and sure enough the guage would come back to its nominal or proper reading immediately!
