Default Steering Problem

I am completing my frame off on my 63E. It has power steering and everything is new (except to power steering pump and steering box) I installed the steering wheel and when I started the car the streering wheel went to the right about 100 mph. when it got to the end of the cycle to the right it wnet to the left about the same speed. It appears it would go back and forth for ever? If I try and force the wheel one direction or the other it has such a drag on the engine it stops running. I been told I need to center the steering , but I cannot find any supporting documentation?

You need to "balance" the control valve - the procedure is on page 9-24 in the 1963 Corvette Shop Manual. Meanwhile, do NOT reach through the steering wheel to start the engine until the valve is balanced, or you can break your arm (don't drive the car, either).

Sounds like the lines are crossed or rather un-crossed. The lines from the cylinder to the valve should cross each other. If they are installed straight, they will do just what you have described.
