Hello all...I have been reading the posts and am pleased and impressed with the sharing of info. I am the proud owner of a 1963 convertable (sebring silver/black) and am currently trying to bring it back to life. The first question I have for any and all is, "What is the difference between a late and an early model." I need to replace some exterior components and this has become an issue. Thanks in advance to all can help me out.

My 63 coupe is an "Early" - built in December 62. I am not sure when the "Late" models started. Most things are the same. The most notable thing that I have bought that I had to pay a premium for because of being early, was the gas door - paid about double that all others sell for.

Off the top of my head:

Outside rearview mirror base.
Under seat depression.
Roller vs. latch gas door.
Anti-rattle hood chocks.
Radio options (AM only early, AM/FM later).
Center dash paint vs pad.
Hood insert stud near upper radiator hose.
Routing of the radiator overflow hose near hood prop rod.
Bond area between roof and lower cage on door jam (Coupe only).
Interior windshield surround stainless vs paint (Coupe only).

I would get Noland's C-2 book. He identifies a bunch. NCRS docs would also help you.

For the dash centre, are early cars painted and the late car have the textured skin? My early coupe is painted and my late roadster has the skin.

Don't know any differences between "early" and "late" model '63's, but welcome.

The Forum is an invaluable resource for those restoring, modifying, hot-rodding, or just mainaining a C1/C2.

And, entertaining, as well. I spend more time each day monitoring the various threads and replies on this site not only for educational purposes, but also as an enjoyable way to converse with fellow Vette aficionados.

Glad to have you aboard.

Yup, early - painted, no vinyl. Then they started to cover w/ dash vinyl.

This is an excellent beginning to various differences, and I also highly agree with the recommendation for Noland's book as well as the NCRS judging guide!!

You are correct. Forgot that one. Shifter linkage changed with tranny.

I also think the rear spring changed as well from early to late. Can anyone confirm this?

Good list. Thanks. I didn't know about the center dash (and I have had a 63 for 5 years). Guess I had never noticed the difference on other 63s. (I thought they were all painted).
