SHIFTING LINKAGE
The cotter pin on my shift linkage broke yesterday(67/427/390hp) and the rod came out. I put a new cotter pin in . The service manual show just a cotter pin or j clip. Long Island Corvette book shows a washer and cotter pin on two of the rods. Can someone tell me if there should be a washer before the cotter pin . Thank You
Hey Piper, I don't think I got around to saying thanks for the ebay link that you emailed me. I have an AIM, for 1966. Looking at the linkage, if it is for the shift levers on the trans itself(1,2,3,4,N) the rod would attach to the lever on the trans, then a washer, then the cotter pin. The other areas only show a cotter pin. Can fax you a copy, if you don't have it. Just let me know !
Wombvette is correct. In the AIM, it says "clip" and they are funny shaped, for the tension. Someone probably used a cotter pin in the past.
