Troy - as far as the 'bible' (Corvette Black Book, Antonick) goes:

F= Flint engine plant
08 = August
14 = 14th day
RF = 327ci/360hp in 1962 & 1963, 327ci/375hp in 1964

Regards, Gary (Perth, Australia)

Thanks for the info... any thoughts on typical time period from engine build date to being installed in a car back in 64?

Thank You

Typical was 2-4 weeks. NCRS allows 6 months.

And this also depended on things like public holidays and union strike actions. A very important thing to keep an eye on is the engine block casting date - obviously needs to precede the engine build date. The casting date number is located at the rear, passenger side of the block near the casting number (excluding '65 thu '68 and early '69 big blocks - where the casting date is located near the starter on the passenger side near the freeze plug). Block date codes are a little hard to decipher, but appear as 3 or 4 charatcters - an alpha followed by 2 or 3 numerics. The alpha represents the month ('A' = Jan with 'L' = Dec) and the next 1 or 2 numerics = the day, with the last = year. So, B129 = a block cast on Feb 12th 1959, or 1969 or 1979 or 1989.

hope this helps
