1960 hood and trunk emblem question
I've seen these emblems with gold lettering on some and silver lettering on others???? Whats the difference?

Melting Slicks
The ones with the gold lettering are like they came with from the factory and are now available as repros made by TrimParts. The ones with the silver lettering are later GM replacements but are not correct for the 58-60 years.

Not sure...
Someone with a 61-62 judging guide should be able to tell you that for sure. I know that the 62's have a special black dish underneath the trunk emblem rather than the spun aluminum on the previous years.

rear emblems 61/62
The 61 & 62 both have the rear emblem in gold lettering and gold "V" as originally from the factory. The 61 has silver background ,however, the 62 changed to the black background in the dish. I believe the dish is aluminum on the 61 but steel on the 62. Hope this helps.

Not sure if that is true or not.....but GOLD is what you want for the 1960 model.

I have the original and '80s replacement for my car. The '80s replacement is silver and actually still in great condition. The original is gold and needed replaced. Not sure why the original is still around.

Unfortunately, while the gold emblem is correct, the repro emblems are easily identified as such and take about the same point hit at judging as a silver Service replacement emblem. The way the flags are painted, are the most noticable difference.

OK, still puzzled.... the silver "V" is NOT correct for any year.... right?
Bill
which then brings up the obvious question.... GM usually keeps the latest edition of a similar part as the ongoing 'service replacement'. if the silver is not an original for any year, then why is it silver?
