help with powerglide #
Working on the powerglide that is in my '61. I'm trying to figure out exactly what I have and hope you all might be able to fill me in.
The powerglide is an aluminum housing 'glide with an external cooler (you may have seen a separate post of mine with the frankenrad radiator and external cooler in this car).
There is a number on the tranny that is Y5P-23N. Does that number tell you anything specific (year, etc.) about this tranny? Hope you can fill me in. Thanks,

I think you are going to find that the tranny you have is not from a 61'.
A cast iron powerglide was still in use in 1961, the aluminum powerglide was first introduced in 62 and did not have a transmission cooler installed until 1963 or 1964.
