Default 427 block tagged "Truck"

I'm going by memory on this and don't seem to have a good picture, but when I had my engine (NOM) out of my car back in the early 90s it seems that I remember it had "Truck" cast in the rear flywheel area. Its a 3916321 4-bolt main block cast L137 (Dec 67 I think) plumbed for remote oil/dry sump ports like all HD 4-bolt main blocks. And its standard deck height (9.8 inches). From what I can tell, 366 and 427 truck blocks were tall deck blocks. Also, I run a standard 3933198 factory aluminum intake on it.

I have one picture that with a magnifying glass appears to show on the right side of the camshaft plug the following:

HI-PERF
TRUCK
PASS

Beneath it looks like a triangle cast in.

Has anyone seen something like this before? Any chance it's a rare one-of-a-kind block worth $100,000 - Ha Ha.

Dan

Mortec does not list that as a truck block- a 2 or 4 bolt main 68 427.

They all say HI PERF PASS. Are you saw "truck" or just a "T"? Because the "T" stands for where it was cast. Tonawanda, New York.

The truck blocks were tall deck blocks and used a taller piston for extra ring(s), IIRC.

I suppose you could use longer rods if they were available, and standard pistons, which would reduce the side thrust some on the cylinder walls

It's been awhile ago but I pretty distinctly remember it saying "Truck". Also the one picture I have of that area appears to show Hi Perf - Truck- Pass. I don't remember what it shows by the oil filter boss and at the rear top part of the block. I'll check this weekend.

I've been meaning to ask about this for some time. It would have been nice to have this forum around back about 1990.

I haven't tried posting a photo on this forum but I've scanned in the print of the back of the engine if someone wants to try to host it and enlarge it.

Truck blocks don't say pass. Most will say truck marine but there will not be a pass anywhere on them. Most 9.8 deck blocks will say truck because they were used in light duty trucks along with passenger cars.

If I remember correctly, my 67 chevelle"s block had truck stamped on it. It was a 2 bolt main. At the time i questioned it and was told its normal stamping....but that was back in the late 70s.The mist of time plays tricks in my mind, sometimes its difficult to peer back thrugh it.

I had a Sep. 1967 block with a 321 casting and an IQ pad stamp Iq was for Corvette with a Powerglide transmission The engine builder in town got it for my 67 corvette When he was rebuilding it I was over to his place and I saw the same marking that you are talking about and I was worried that is was a truck engine and it was a short deck engine Right or wrong he said they all have that . Mine was a two bolt main

Perfectly normal - nothing unusual about that.

OK, good to know. I didn't remember anyone mentioning this before or finding it in the reference material I had. A shame though - I had hoped it was a rare, one-of-a-kind block worth some bucks.
