Is the back smaller white **** on the 1953 to 1955 Corvette a lock or a door ****?

The 53-55 don't have windows. They have a side curtain. The curtain goes in the front of the door at an angle and then down into a receiver at the rear of the door. The **** you refer to releases the rear receiver so that the side curtain may be removed.
