Talked to a guy today who says he has a C3 which originated as a body for a 54 but was never built by GM. He is very specific in his history of the car as to where it has been over the years and where certain parts came from and how they were acquired. Apparently there was never an engine because it has a 350 of some type. Do not know about the transmission. Obviously there are no matching numbers because there are no numbers. Has anyone ever heard about anything like this? BTW guy is no stranger to Vettes. Has a C5 that he is showing this weekend.
I can't make much sense out of your post. Could you be more explicit as to what this thing is. Is it claimed to be a "factory show car" or "prototype"?
I think I better put my boots on?
I'll try again. This thing is supposed to be an extra body from the 54 production year, Call it a leftover if you will. Was bought by a man who was in upper level management at GM. Pieces and parts were bought through GM sources. The original owner caller it his Johnny Cash car since parts were obtained from multiple production years. I agree that it all sounds a bit strange which is the reason I started this post in the first place. I guess I was swayed by just how specific he was in his history. I invited him to join the Forum. Maybe he did and will tell us more.
Sounds like hogwash to me - can hardly wait to hear more; if it looks like a '54, but it's on a C3 frame, it's probably one of the '53 kit car bodies that was designed to go on a Chevelle frame - there are two of those in my local area.
Okay, so it sounds like this is a '54 body on a C3 chassis, done by a private individual. The "fact" that is was done by a nameless "GM executive" doesn't really mean much. It's just another one-off custom done by an individual, not a factory show car or prototype. Some might have an interest in it - a curiosity, but I don't think it has a high intrinsic value.
Also, as mentioned by John Z it might not even be a real C1 body on a real C3 chassis. The five inch difference in wheelbase between a C1 and C2/C3 chassis would make such a mating problematic, without significant modifications to either the frame or body to get the wheels lined up with the fender well contours.
just cause it sounds like a Duck doesn't mean it's a duck...even if it came from someone who knew someone who had a pic of a duckfarm......how about a VIN????  if it's real let's make some history.... :chevy :chevy
