Many years ago, David was advertising '63 consoles for sale. I placed an order to get one and waited, called and waited, called and waited, called and waited, called. Finally figured out that it was a fishing exhibition for his new product yet to be made. After almost a year I had mine console restored. Several months after David calls me and wants my credit card information again to ship the console. I told him thanks but no thanks. He became somewhat indignant. Never done business with him since!
I bought some parts from him about 3 or 4 years ago. He was slow in getting them to me. I felt he was bothered when I called to ask him about my parts. Don't know if he was very busy and worked alone or what, said he had to take the part out of the door. Felt like it was an excuse at the time and he had many.
Don't know about recent activities though. I did get my used part it just took some time.
I made an inquiry to him about a part for a motor once. He took the information down and got back to me - 7 months later.
It might be worth giving him a call if for no other reason:
- its like a right of passage in the world of Corvette part shopping, call him, speak to him, and you will hear for yourself
- he's not rude like the Corvette **** of LICS, but he is definatley a bit different
- if your not brave enough, at least go to his website and take a look, David is not shy about publically sharing his passion for Corvettes and other non-car related interests
I have heard that most of his original parts have been machined and re-stamped. Everything from Engines, to carbs, to alternators. I'd be very careful buying from them.
From: One thing is for sure this kind of discourse and BS would not be tolerated on the NCRS forum. Ohio

I've had the pleasure ? of having a vendor spot next to him a few times and he comes by my space at Carlisle every year. The guy would be have to be considered eccentric at best. He can be quite amusing to talk to.
FWIW I've purchased two things from him, both arrived well packaged and in a timely manner.
I was out in San Diego a couple of years ago. Went looking for Cranes
Corvettes, figuring that there must be something there. Ended up in a residential section on a cul-de-sac. I didn't see anything there, perhaps a car or two in the street. Those could have been anybodies in the little neighborhood.
I didn't even try stopping, figuring that it wasn't someplace I wanted to be.
I recently purchased a birdcage from David. It was presented to be in excellent condition to me and to another forum member. What I received was in fair to poor condition with amateur welding to hide rust holes and a damaged area that was described as a dent. If you PM me with an email address (not good for dial-up), I will send you a file with photos to validate this.
I also ordered a core support and two drip rails. The core support was as claimed. One of the drip rails was bent in shipment because it was just shoved into the box with the heavy core support.
I left a msg once, he got back to me several days later. In talking to him he seemed dissinterested and I sensed this was a backyard operation, and better stay away from it.
I think it's a crap shoot working with this type supplier long distance. You would be ok if you could meet with him at his place of business, and be able to inspect the merchandise, and know what your looking for.

I picked up some Tri-Power parts and BB valve covers a couple of years ago. Everything was fine, cost was on the high side but that is up we come to expect.
If your friend is lloking for an engine - have him look up:
"engineslimited.com" in Wisconsin.
I have heard some good things regarding their work and attention to detail.
One of the best damn re-stampers in the business - just ask some of the forum members who have used there services! Oh wait, they are kinda quiet about it now . . . .
