I've been going totally nuts over the exhaust in my 1965 convt project. I have installed a new ZZ 385 with aluminum fastburn heads. I'm going with under car exhaust and need help with header selection. I tried a set of Patroit Block Huggers and the second tube hits squarely on the steering box. The same header fits Dennis Becks 1966 but not my '65. Might there be a difference in the steering box between '65 and '66? I contacted Doug's Headers...they say they have nothing for this application. Hedman has a #66309 they say will work, but looking at pics of them it appears they might have the same problem as the Patroits. So could some of you send me in the right direction? By the way ... the motor is not modified in any way and as far as I can tell the steering and front suspension has not been changed in any way. No pun intended, but this whole issue is exhausting.

Hmm, I put Dynomax ceramic headers on my SBC (64) and had no issues with riding. Also installed a set of Hedman side pipe headers with no riding at all...

I installed the 355 hp ZZ-4 in my 65. Try Sanderson Headers. They make a center dump set that will work very well. Get the set that exhausts straight down. If you have a right side mount alternator, you will have to build a bracket to mount the alt. If it's a left side mount they have one. Have fun.

I have used Hedman on my stock SB with no problems. Same car with 350 and after market alum heads, no way no how. It looks like the exhaust ports are in a slightly different location (up and out).
