Default C2 Convertible Carpet Installation

I have an AL Knoch carpet for my '64 convertible and there is a total of 19 pieces. It is obvious the pieces with piping trim are the last to be installed but is there any preferred sequence to follow?

I know some of you glue all pieces and some do not. Are there some pieces that absolutely have to be glued?

Any other suggestions?

Appreciate the help.

I will be following this topic since it is on my to-do list for March (after the re-spray).

Default carpet

Mine was glued and it took forever to remove. Are you using heat or sound underlayment as your fist step. if so you might want to use some small amount to hold it on the rear wheel wells or the very back under the lip to keep the underlayment from slipping. The only area I glued the carpet was to the metal panel behing the seat seperating the jack well.Hope yours goes better than mine did. Carpet lead to rebuilding seat adding Leather , new door panels lead to rebuilding and repairing whiskers, felts and some interior door parts. Looking at the antenna lead to a new sound system . To make a short story even longer 7 months to put the interior back.

1. Put down your underlay - jute, dynamat, factory sound deadener - your choice.

2. In drivers side bay - get the holes for the gas pedal alligned first, then seat the rest. Use a steamer to push it into the corners. the heat will make the carpet flexible and seat well. Cut the holes for the seat holes, anchors, and seat belts. Mearure the edges severval times and UNDERTRIM. You can always trim more later.

3. Tackle the passenger bay.

4. Place the rear compartment.

5. Place the part on the rear verticle metal - use clamps and a board to prevent it from puckering.

6. Place the trim pieces - kick panels and rear quarter.

________________________________________ __________

Put the carpet in 1st.

No triming or holes at the beginning

Keep steaming it into place.

Let it sit for a day and re-do this.

Cut last.

Some areas you need to glue. Some you can get away with just carpet tape.

Warning - the spray glue will fry your brain with fumes.

Some people like to use a contact cement like glue.

Thanks, I have already installed Dynamat, thought about also adding foil-backed Heat Shield but I think I will just go with the Dynamat.

Isn't it necessary to install any glued pieces first? Or, do I just pull back the un-glued pieces when it is time to spray adhesive in particular areas?

It looks like the pieces covering the rear wheel well humps would have to be glued in order to stay in place.

Thanks, Gordon
