Engine Paint
In various places the paint has cracked(heads, block), I've used a small wire brush to clean up the area. I've also used a few cans of brake clean to wash away the residual dirt, grease, etc.
Is there any product which I should apply to the block, heads, etc. before I spray them?
Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!!
" I like to spray some SEM acid etching primer onto the engine first. Just a light coat that barely has any coverage. I then will spray my first coat of paint lightly before the primer has had a chance to dry, I then will wait for the first paint coat to tach up and then come back and spray fairly heavily my last coat of paint. By using an acid etching primer you are getting some bite into the metal and by painting your first coat of paint prior to it drying you are mating them together. It makes for a durable and chip resistant finish. SEM primers can be purchased at most automotive grade paint supply stores. Regards, Marv "
PERSONALLY, I have not primered any engines. But I did find out from scoggins dickey that their favorite engine paint - they say it lasts the best - is 'Plastikote' engine paint - (obviously chevrolet orange) Also be sure to read the directions on the can about WHEN you can re-coat and how long you should wait, it's important to get that right.
Good Luck!
