Default Bench testing a clock

My clock stopped working after I replaced radio and speaker in my 63. I had to pull the clock to get the speaker out and the new one installed. Not sure if it's just cooincidence, or if I messed something up. The clock has had the quartz update installed and worked perfectly before I removed/reinstalled. The only other thing that I did was manually adjust the hour hand...because it was never on the hour when it should have been. Also, can I bench test the clock with a little 12V 6.5 A battery?

You can ...The ground is the one that is made into the case, the poistive is the one thats insulated.

With the quartz kit’s, it only takes one tiny mistake to fry the conversion kit. If you arked any hot wire to the housing by mistake, it will fry the movement in the clock.

It’s actually pretty easy to replace the movement. (less than one hour from start to finish)

Just as Jason said, run a ground to the terminal that is made to the housing and then 12 volts to the terminal that has the nut holding it on. (Or the insulated terminal)

One big issue that I’ve seen happen with customers rebuilding their own clock. When installing the back of the clock housing to the main clock they ignore the position of the black insulating grommet on positive terminal! On the repro quartz movements you have to be careful that the black grommet is fully insulating the positive stud post from the outer housing before testing. Again, one ark and you fry the new movement.

I pulled my clock out and hooked it up to my little 12V 5A battery...nothing. Hard to believe I could have fried anything......I had the circuit killer on the battery post 'opened'. How much is it going to cost me to have repaired?

BTW.....ain't no way that clock comes out w/o taking the 6 x 9 speaker out...at least in my 63. I held my tongue in every possible position...no way.

test light and check the wires and see if power is going to the clock and make sure the wire is grounded as well.

Harrison Speedo in Jupiter, FL. gldnkngt@adelphia.net. I'd be happy to take a look at it for you and replace the movement if that's what it needs.
