My 65 has a recently restored speedometer (thanks Jason!), a fresh speedometer cable properly lubed, and transmission speedo gears that appear to be in excellent shape.
As I rapidly accelerate through the gears, the speedometer needle bounces a lot and also generally lags behind the actual speed - until I push the clutch in to shift at which time the needle jumps up to the current speed.
It is as if the speedometer cable is getting wound up and releasing, wound up and releasing.
If I drive the car moderately and passively, as if I'm trying to save fuel, the speedometer needle keeps up with actual speeds, this issue only happens when I run through the gears like a teenager.
My 67 does not bounce, well maybe a bit. It does not seem to keep up with the speed when standing on the gas. Suspect it's all the mechanical magnetic stuff that makes it work.
My '63 speedometer also does not keep up, on hard accelerations only. I haven't noticed it bounce on these occasions. It does bounce a little bit at idle though. So I'm all
