C1 upper windshield channel question

C1 upper windshield channel question
I have an upper windshield channel (frame) for a C1 corvette (56-62) and toward each end and inside the channel is a clip of some sort spot-welded to the side of the channel. It looks as if it would interfere with the windshield and weatherstrip. Does anyone know what its purpose is?

I'd guess sunvisors. They were an option. If you ordered them, you had the screws/clips/captured nuts to mount them in the header.
