Default Distributor codes

I have a 1111196 distributor which I know is for a 327/350 motor. I also think it is for a 1967 motor. What I don't understand is what I thought was a date code of 3 H 30 or 9-30-63. Is that not a date code or am I reading it wrong? Thanks

Ken,

H= August for Distributors according to Corvette by the numbers.

The 9 is confusing, I would guess year, but the 1111196 is a 1967 distributor.

oWEN,

So if H is August, is there no year code?

The code is 3 H 30. no 9

Hi Guys,

It's probably a service distributor that was manufactured in 1973 and sold through a GM dealer parts department.

So how does that equate with a 1967 ???? Would it not be a 1963? But the 1111196 is only 1966 and 1967? I'm confused

Ok that would account for the date but why use the 67 numbers. Why not use what was available in 73? I know they are just removable tags or are you saying the tag was some kind of service tag rather than original when it was serviced? That the distributor is a 67 and re-manufactured in 73? Very confusing.

Distributors were manufactured with many different configurations. Different advance weights/springs, different main shafts, vacuum advances, etc.

I would expect your distributor to have the 1967 part number, because the 1973-produced distributor was produced in accordance with all the configuration parameters consistent with the 1111196 unit.

In other words, it wasn't simply a "Corvette" distributor, but one made for that application.
