I just bolted on a 850 double pumper Demon to-day to the 502.I can tell you from the first pop :eek: though the the side pipes, this is a totally different car to drive. The engine idle is smoother and quieter,it has more snap:D even before you hit the secondaries. The engine handles the mechical secondary(wow) very nicely. The midrange is totally different. There was nothing wrong with the Holley(850 vac sec)that came with engine from GM the car ran great,idle good didn't load up good power.The Demon atomizes the fuel different from the Holley and with our engine it has a whole new sound to it.
Thanks Cole :flag
I had a similar experience with a Speed Demon 650 double-pumper on my '63 with a 327. It replaced a 600 cfm Carter AFB. The performance increase is amazing. I didn't expect it from a carb swap. Throttle response is instant. I also picked up mid/upper range that could be felt by the seat. I am anxious to run the quarter to see what the numbers are. :cheers:
Stngry Good to know you had a similair experience and that its not a fluke with just our engine. I would like to hear from others that switch to a Demon

Ratag we haven't opened it up yet, GM says it is 5,800 we have about 1500 miles on it since Aug 15th and limited it to 5000 red line with the MSD,ours is crate stock. My son and I drove it for about 4 hours to-day it really is like a different car.

Colevette ,What year Vette ? , I have a 650 CFM double pumper on the shelf , my current set up is a 780 Holley with a quick secondary spring , that works great, when I first got my Vette 6 years ago I used the doublepumper & as I recall the double pumper had immidiate throttle response & was very responsive , but to small (cfm ) for my 433 engine...if the stock market recovers , will re/think the double pumper 800 cfm set up...........enjoy & drive your 502 :cheers: sounds like a great machine...............
Straydog the corvette is a 67 rag top with a t56/502. Staydog if you compare the appearance of a Demon vs Holley, you would think the Holley came from Junk Yard Wars.Appearance aside the Demon has an complete different mid range feel to it before you even get to the secondaries thats another ride :D

@5800 rpm your 502 uses 842 cfm
@6000 rpm your 502 uses 871 cfm
You might be operating at the maximum limits an 850 cfm carb can handle regardless of mfg.
Well, I have checked around...the Pro Gas racers across the street...and Mr. Wizard, member of the Gold Team and all around performance and timing wiz with the Scandanavian name up the road, and all say that the Demon carbs are simply the best going all around from performance to tech support. And build parts are readily available.... So.......my kid's college fund is going to shrink a very small amount in the near days (he has crumby grades and needs fewer brews anyway). :yesnod: :yesnod: :lol:
The Beast shall receive a new feedbag soon...... I will report back.

67 RAGTAG ,you are correct, as I limit myself to a 5700 RPM , self imposed red line on my , 427 , IE 433 (.O30 over ) , ,,, what other CFM from deamon on double pumper ??? 750 ???, available, the stock 780 HOLLY has been fine ,especially driveing in the fall as the choke system is excellant but your post indicates Deamon is an excellant option.,
Ratag great information,GM equips the 502 with a 850 as well that was what Demon's tech dept spec out for us. Also if you look at Demon's web site they show test that were done with less cfm carbs as compared to there competor's. Is your car running if so how is it going and what are you using for carbs?

My car has been held hostage for 3 yrs and 5 months at the place where it is being restored. Long story I will relate at another time. Let's just say I haven't the time to do it myself, and they keep losing suitable mechanics. That is it pretty much w/o the BS. The car gets worked on for short, intense bursts, then may sit for 6 months. My carb is a Holley 850 reworked by DaVinci carbs to a 1020 cfm unit. Engine is out of my old 69 SS Chevelle ragtop but is really a '71 LS6 w/ open chamber heads. Has a new rebuild as the 490 but has not been fired yet. One day.......I won't say soon, it will see pavement. :yesnod:
