Default Fan question

Does anyone know if the 7 blade mid-70's to early-80's style clutch style fan will fit a '66 vette? I need a little more cooling than what the 5 blade fan gives.

Thanks in advance,

-Lurkin

no reason why it shouldn't work as long as you get the same diameter as your 5-blade.

I guess that's what I'm really asking; if the 66 and 7-blade C3 fans are the same diameter.

Check me out on this because I've forgotten. I think some of the later '70's used a larger pump shaft are larger bolt circle. That be the case, it won't fit your water pump unless you co-ordinate the two. I don't believe the later fan blade will interchange on the early clutch. If so, you'll have to change as an assembly. I believe a small block clutch has a longer shaft than the BB.

There was a seven blade fan made to fit the early clutch. It was used on AC jobs.

'65-'70 BB water pumps had a 3/4" shaft and 5/8" pilot with a 3" hub bolt circle; '71-'74 pumps had a 3/4" pilot and a 3-1/4" hub bolt circle.

'60-'70 clutch fans had a 2-3/8" center hole and a 3" clutch mounting bolt circle; '71-'82 clutch fans had a 2-5/8" center hole and a 3-1/4" clutch mounting bolt circle.

And yet another JohnZ post gets bookmarked on my computer for future reference. So I need to be looking for a 60-70, 7 blade fan for my factory A/C 65. Got it.
