Ditto to that!!! My paint is unmarred since the top hasn't been on since painting. I have considered a film similar to that used above the rrear of the rockers on 911 turbos, but then that becomes a greater problem if it doesn't work.

I'll admit that, while I like the looks of the car with the hardtop, I'm hesitant since this has been a problem with several of the 9 vettes I've owned. Any other ideas?

Good luck selling it...and good to see you posting.

When are you coming out to see everyone in that bad boy?? We have a little cruise going this weekend to Bryan I think.

Well, Jim, the saga of the 67 ratrag continues. With just over 200+ miles on the old engine I was leaving a traffic lite (behind other cars) when the engine staggerred, and then came back up. It was now making a noise new to the engine, so I took her home. Trailered it over to Carney's corvette center, yes, I know, but.....anyway I had Calvin agree to look at it. He agreed to pull and replace the engine for $1200, so I had the engine pulled and took it over to Dennis to have it checked out. Seems the "Lunati" crank I bought from and had installed by:
Syd Johnson, Houston Busines name "JAM" Beware
turned out to be some crappy reweld, I mean crappy. Spun bearing, new crank plus some other work, $6000. Promised 2 weeks turn around time, 3 months in reality. Engine finally back in car after another 3 months waiting at the Corvette center, told out the door.....$2400.
I'm not in Houston right now, but have been spending quality time cleaning up the old AK 47 for when I return home to settle my accounts with past mechanics.

Come visit me in Huntsville. (To those of you not from Texas, this is where we lock up our criminals.)

Thought I'd sell the top to defray some of the (proctologic) treatment I recently received as described above. It doesn't get used and the one time we tried it on, it scratched the paint so we had a little redo to fix that blemish. I stated it was painted only to indicate it had a good surface and wasn't old cracked laquer.

When I purchased my 67 7-years ago the first thing bought was a clear deck lid protector for my convertible top. Most corvette parts magazines carry them. It's been on my ride for the 7 years I own it. It comes off every fall to clean both sides of it. The paint underneath it is perfect! I am now restoring the hard top and plan to use it next summer. I also bought one for it. One can't be used for the other. It's clear and hardly noticeable. I used to own a 72 convertible years ago and ruined not only the paint but the fiberglass because they weren’t around back then. Wouldn't be without one.

Wow...hate to hear all that drama!! That's ugly!! Finding a good machinist that actually produces work when he says at somewhere close to the estimate is a very tough thing. I know of several in Houston area...I would use different ones for different stuff. So do excellent work..but are incredibly slow. Some can do some things very quickly.

Hoping you get it all back together for spring. It's time to finally have some fun with that Dude!!

Let's get it ready to make the trip To Bowling Green in May!@!
