I just looked at a 65 327/365 car that had the vin # of the car on the left side of the pad ( facing it from the front of the car ) with the engine code following it on the right side of the pad.
Isn't the engine code stamped on the left side of the pad followed by the vin # ??? or were they stamped both ways ??
The engine's seriel number derivative ('VIN') is stamped outboard of the engine assembly code on small block. So, what you saw was correct. (Big blocks were stamped in the opposite order.)
Thanks for the clarification...I had looked at a big block earlier in the week and thought it was a real bad re-stamp mistake !!! I guess I should have known that....Thanks

Hello Steve,
The car you just looked at is a 1965 / 327-365hp. When you read left to right the VIN starts and then the engine assebly date and suffix code. This the correct factory stampings.
What are the numbers that you just seen?
What info is on your car?
Regards,
Drew Papsun
I just looked at my own 65 and it is an HG car and the vin does proceed the engine code. I was confused when I saw the opposite sequence on a big block car that I had looked at earlier.
Thank God forum members have their head screwed on better than mine

You looked at a car with an engine stamp pad showing it was assembled as an L76 with MT and AC - nice, some guys would kill for the 365 hp plus factory AC.
