Default '66 Shifter Console Needed

I am in the process of putting back in the interior of the big-block '66 Convertible I just bought this past weekend, and have come to the conclusion that the shifter console is not nice enough for the car (it's otherwise been completely restored).

Does anyone here have a mint '64-'67 center shifter console for sale, or know where I can buy one?

Mike

Congratulations on your recent purchase. If your current console is not dented or pitted real bad, you can restore the one you have. Long Island Corvette Supply (section 15 of their catalog) as well as other vendors have the appropriate parts. You will also need to strip the blue paint and repaint. Should be like new when you are finished.

good luck

yeah, JL66REDCPE's right as usual...heck, i'd probably say it's restorable even if it's pitted because you should check the cost of a re-plate (remember, it only has to last as long as your estate plans to hold on to the car) vs. buying a new floor console outright

...very easy to restore, just apply multiple thin coats of paint so's you don't fill up every one of them number-matching grainy pits!

good luck and welcome...standard line is you'll find a mistress would be cheaper...where the hell's kahuner when i need a good tag line???

I probably need to locate and buy a better console, as not only is the section surrounding where the shifter comes through pitted, but there are 2 small nicks in the side chrome (one on each side). This car is a very strong #2 car, and I think I need to buy another console. Any other ideas?

I dont think the consoles for 64-67 are being reproduced so you will have to find one NOS or used. Chicago Corvette has them pre-owned listed in their catalog. They may also have one NOS. 1-800-872-2446. They will charge you a couple hundred bucks plus for the pre-owned.

good luck

...I saw about 6 or so for sale at this year's Corvettes at Carlisle....The year before I only saw one... And that one didn't look good. One re-chromed one I saw this year I just couldn't pass up for $300....First re-chromed one I ever saw...Ya can't tell it's re-chromed until you look at the bottom...To tell the truth I don't look at that part too often...But the top and side is PERFECT...The guy even put a new console kit on it and painted it...(Flat black) :mad ...all I need to do is repaint it semi-gloss...The one on my 67 I am replacing it with is not that bad....I painted it (shows good wrinkles) and placed a new colsole kit on it also....The only not perfect part is the side of the chrome that has normal wear scratches on it...From the top it looks dam@ good...But it's not perfect...If you are interested I can send pics...I'm putting a new Hurst in the car shortly and will then be replacing the console.
