Default C2 heater core question

I'm going to be replacing the heater core in my 66. There's been a thread about this, but I'm still a little confused on the removal of the old core. In the AIM and other diagrams I've seen, it looks like it should be removed from the front (eng compartment). Why is it I hear I have to take out the glove box, maybe the radio, etc? I have the glove box and shifter console out now, for resto work. Maybe I'm just dense, but I could use a little direction on this one.

Thanks, Dave

There is a "heater box" on non AC cars. The box joins at the fire wall. The heater core must be removed from inside the car. To get it out you must also remove the outer part of the heater box in engine compartment.

As mentioned earlier, this gray fiberglass heater box must be removed from inside the car to gain access to the heater core itself. The heater core is secured using a strap and 2 screws over each end tank to a sheet metal panel sandwiched between the heater box and the firewall. As you can see, the heater box is a long bulky unit. You need to get a lot out of the way to remove it. Tim

I just went through this. I scanned in the article from the Jan 03 issue of Corvette Magazine for another member...PM me your email address if you want and I'll email it to you...

It's not difficult, as I have found out...just takes some patience.

Don't forget about the nut above the gas pedal!! It took me awhile to figure that one out.
